Ryan Lopes

As Told By

YF Muse Ryan Lopes talks intimacy, inspiration, and his stellar personal style.

What is your favorite album?

My favorite album would have to be, Forever, Ya Girl by Keiyaa, Embrya by Maxell. Two very timeless albums and of course, the slots of favorites rotate.

Who is your favorite visual artist?

I’m always adorned by the vision of Hubert Yang, who I believe is a creative based in Taiwan. Such a unique display of narratives within nature, femmes, and form.

What is your favorite piece of jewelry that you own?

My array of rings, silvers, especially the ring finger.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Sleeping in. Coffee before breakfast.

Please describe your personal style

My style is classic. With attention to detail, tailoring and pattern.

What is your favorite season? Why?

Summer, as I’m outside most, connected with nature and the ocean. I’m so lucky to have it so close to me here at home, in Rhode Island.

Who inspires you?

My friends and family, and their inspirations. It’s very sacred.

What is your nickname and who gave it to you?

Two, one I grew up with, Rha-Rha. My dad gave me that name, a true product of the 90s, I think he was into the term used in a song by Busta Rhymes. He swore it sounded so cool, and it stuck. Also, Ry-lo. Working in coffee for years, even still, my team, more like family, calls me that, short for “Ryan Lopes”.

What does intimacy mean to you?

Intimacy to me means to reflect and release. It’s how things are put together and presented into the world, whether they are encounters or displays we make for ourselves.
